Travel Insurance For Long-term Trips

Many travelers have strong opinions about whether you should buy travel insurance. However, the purpose of this post is not to determine whether it is worth investing. Instead, compare some of the top travel insurance providers and policies so you can determine which travel insurance option is best for you.

Travel Insurance Market Size & Share Analysis

Of course, as the coronavirus remains an ongoing concern, it’s important to understand whether travel insurance covers pandemics. Some policies will cover you if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 and have proof of illness from a doctor. Others will take the coverage a step further, covering additional types of expenses and cancellations related to the pandemic.

However, be aware that each policy will have exclusions and restrictions that may limit coverage. For example, fear of travel is generally not a covered reason for canceling or discontinuing coverage, while specific stipulations may apply to heightened travel warnings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Therefore, before purchasing a specific policy, you should understand the full terms and any special notices the insurer has regarding COVID-19. You may even want to purchase the optional cancellation for any reason add-on that is available for some comprehensive policies. While you’ll pay more for that protection, it allows you to cancel your trip for any reason and still recoup some of your costs. Please note that this benefit is time-dependent and has other eligibility requirements, so not all travelers will be eligible.

In this guide, we’ll review several policies from the top travel insurance providers so you can better understand your options before choosing the policy and provider that best suits your wants and needs.
