Group Health Insurance For Freelancers – Health insurance is a complicated and often frustrating topic for which we are given no direction – And I know it’s a topic that often hinders

I have good news: there are many great health insurance options for freelancers.

Group Health Insurance For Freelancers

More freelancers (and aspiring freelancers) need to know their options—so we’ve done the research for you to help you finally cross “finding health insurance” off your list.

How To Get Your Health Insured If You Are Self Employed?

This will be divided into sections for US readers and then for non-US readers, so it’s very clear which ones may apply to you in your country.

We are not medical professionals. We don’t know what is best for you and your health – consult the experts. We’ve just done our research and gathered the possible options for you.

Let’s start in the US, where it is probably the most difficult to find an affordable health insurance option.

If you’re in the US, it’s a great idea to explore all of your options before choosing the health insurance plan that’s right for you.

The Best Disability Insurance For Self Employed Individuals

According to the World Population Review, the US spends the most on health care per person each year, which can then translate into expensive health care for individuals—up to $3,200 per person.

The good news is that even though American health insurance is expensive, you may qualify for a better plan or lower premiums than with a traditional employer.

Being self-employed allows you to choose the exact type and amount of cover that makes sense for you – and this can save you money, lots of time.

Because health insurance varies from state to state, it would be wise, of course, to do your own individual research.

How To Get Self Employed Or Freelancer Health Insurance

If you are under 26 – congratulations! Since 2010, under the Affordable Care Act (or ACA), you can stay on your parent’s plan until your 26th birthday.

If you’re over 65, you’re eligible for Medicare, and the government also pays a large portion of your health care costs.

ACA is a viable option for some freelancers or businesses. Plans are divided into 4 categories: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, each varying in quality and coverage.

Membership Organizations And Health Insurance

If you’re considering leaving a job where you have health insurance, you may be able to take advantage of COBRA (or the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act – but that’s a mouthful!).

A government regulation from 1986 offers ex-employees the right to extend their cover, usually up to 36 months, by assuming their premium payments.

This could be a super affordable option for those leaving traditional jobs to start a freelance career as a temporary solution while you figure out your next steps and grow your freelance business.

They offer self-employed health insurance plans in several states, including New York, California, Florida, and Texas.

Understanding Health Insurance For Remote Workers

Its mission is to ensure a better future for entrepreneurs in America. They are free to join and worth checking out!

With over 56 million Americans doing some type of freelancing last year, hopefully this type of insurance group will continue to grow in popularity.

This tip won’t apply to everyone because let’s face it, sometimes it can be very difficult to save money! But if you can swing it, it’s a great idea to have some money set aside before you leave the company plan.

Deductibles on cheaper plans can be very high, so it’s a great idea to set aside an amount equal to or greater than your deductible in a high-yield savings account before you leave your job and hopefully won’t need to use it. .

Just for context – I’m writing this as a non-American and have never lived in the US; I was almost always covered by public health insurance, where the amount I paid per month depended on where I lived.

Best Health Insurance For The Self Employed Of 2023

The only time I wasn’t on public health insurance was when I was traveling full-time; I had global private health insurance at the time. In my experience, my global private health insurance has been great. It was with NOW Health – and I was paying around €200-300 per month.

I can’t go into each country’s specific system – but option 2 below will be very helpful in getting something tailored to you and your needs.

They are aimed at small and medium-sized businesses and allow you to match your needs with your company’s budget.

By pooling resources among business owners, these plans allow small businesses access to coverage previously only available to large corporations. Definitely worth a look!

Your Health Insurance Options When You’re Self Employed

A health insurance broker is a licensed benefits professional who helps individuals and businesses navigate the health insurance selection process from start to finish.

I honestly didn’t know this was a thing – but I ended up using a Pacific Prime broker while traveling to find my global health insurance called Now Health and it was AMAZING.

The consultation was completely free (I assume they get a kickback when we choose a provider through them) and our contact was incredibly helpful and found me many options VERY specific to my situation: where I wanted to travel, what coverage I wanted, deductible items, my citizenship, etc.

This is, in my experience, the BEST option for anyone who feels overwhelmed by the process of researching and choosing their own coverage, which I’m guessing is most of us.

They will go over all your options with you and customize a plan to fit your unique situation and budget.

This is just one last quick option – if you have a spouse or domestic partner with a traditional job that provides benefits, you can sign up to receive benefits under their plan.

Simple and effective. Not everyone has access to this option, but we’ve included it because if it applies to you, it’s the easiest and most obvious option to get great coverage.

Employer-provided plans tend to be one-size-fits-all, while individual plans allow you to choose the exact type and amount of coverage that makes sense for you.
